Nice work, you're on your way to improving your writing skills. Choose a question from the list below and get started:

Creative Writing

• Pick an established genre and write a narrative making use of the conventions surrounding that particular style. This could be Horror, Western, Mystery, Romance or whatever you’d like to choose.
• Write a monologue describing the thoughts and feelings of one of your favourite film characters.
• Write a creative piece involving a conflict that needs to be resolved.

Essay Prompts

Years 7 - 10:

• Shakespeare’s works are still relevant to modern audiences. Discuss with reference to one of Shakespeare’s plays. Adaptations can be used as related texts.
• Identify and detail one major theme within the text you’re are studying at the moment. How are language conventions used to portray this theme?
• Poets paint images with words, creating messages that matter to us all. Discuss with reference to at least three poems you’ve studied.
• What are the conventions of satire? How are these conventions and techniques used in your given satirical text?

HSC:

• With reference to language conventions and construction, identify and explain one of the distinctive ideas expressed within your given text.
• Compare and contrast two related texts from your class. Do their messages coincide, or present differing opinions upon the issues raised?
• Discovery is essential in gaining perspective and understanding. Discuss with reference to at least two texts.

WACE:

• An understanding of the author’s context is more valid than a reader’s viewing of a given text. Discuss with reference to one of your own studied texts.
• Identities presented in texts can inform how we view our own identities, and even change them. Discuss with reference to one of your own studied texts.
