“When students utilise Studiosity’s WF service, the personalised and specific feedback raises students’ confidence in their ability to write academically.”
Dr David Pike, Head of Digital Learning, University of Bedfordshire recently conducted a study to examine Students' perspectives of a study support (Studiosity) service at a University. Part one of Dr Pike’s research was published 21 May 2024 in ALT’s Research in Learning Technology.
University of Bedfordshire has partnered with Studiosity for four years. Since this initial research which took place in academic year 2021/22, and following a successful trial of Studiosity+ starting in February 2024, the University has now expanded access to their entire 20,000+ student cohort. Studiosity+ is uniquely ethical, evidence-based AI technology for learning gain. This means even greater equitable access to unlimited writing feedback in minutes for all the University's students. For staff, this means enhanced data outcomes for visible learning outcomes and progress.
“Following a successful product trial of Studiosity's AI-for-learning platform - all of our 20,000 students will have access to ethical writing feedback."
The comparison of student outcomes using the classic (human-led) Studiosity service vs Studioisty+ (AI learning technology with humans in the loop) has been the basis of the second part of Dr Pike’s research, which looks at engagement, student satisfaction, grade improvement and staff perception. Early outcomes show that the number of students engaging with Studiosity+ increased by 50%, and the number of help-seeking moments increased by 124%. Subsequently, grades improved by 11.1% for first and third year students, with an even greater increase of 21.5% for second year students.
On the roll out of this expanded support now to all of University of Bedfordshire’s students, Dr David Pike said:
“Following a successful product trial of Studiosity's AI-for-learning platform - both in terms of the huge increase in the number of students receiving help and subsequent grade improvements - I am pleased to announce that all of our 20,000 students will have access to ethical writing feedback. For the last four years, access to the human version of the system [Studiosity ‘Classic’] was on a first-come, first-served basis. Many students believed they could save up potential submissions until the end of the academic year, but finite resources prevented this. The opportunity to introduce equality of access was a core feature of the University’s Widening Participation approach and Studiosity+ offered an opportunity for all students to receive feedback faster, to have all areas of their academic writing examined for opportunities to improve their own work, and to allow students beyond the confines of the UK to access to the service and receive support 24/7”.
